Anti-Wrinkle Muscle Relaxant Injections is a revolution in anti-ageing medicine but it cannot fix everything so it is also reassuring to know that Cosmetic Image Clinics offers a multitude of cosmetic medicine and surgical solutions. You can be reassured of a holistic cosmetic solution to your individual concerns.
Anti-Wrinkle Muscle Relaxant solution is a product derived from a bacterium which blocks the signals from the nerves to the muscle into which it is injected. As a result the muscle can no longer contract which therefore causes the wrinkles to relax and soften. The few tiny injections relax the muscular contractions which cause ‘dynamic’ wrinkles. Dynamic facial wrinkles occur when we make repeated facial expressions involving muscle contraction such as a smile, laugh or frown. With age, these expression lines deepen frown lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet around the eye and horizontal forehead wrinkles. These lines may give an impression of anger, anxiety, sadness and “tiredness”.
Anti-Wrinkle Muscle Relaxant Injections therapy is a non-surgical facial enhancement innovation that targets the treatment of mild to moderate wrinkles. Deeper lines can be treated in conjunction with other treatment modalities which are offered at Cosmetic Image Clinics within Aquarius Health and Medispa. The wrinkles you earn after the first twenty or thirty years of your life can be erased or softened in days with this non-surgical procedure. Some residual lines can occur after there has been the breakdown of elastin and collagen. After treatment however, these lines can improve over time with treatment and with the ongoing use of Anti-Wrinkle Muscle Relaxant Injection therapy which may slow down the appearance of ageing.
The most famous Anti-Wrinkle Muscle Relaxant Injections are from Allergen, registered in the United States of America. Another brand, the European equivalent, is also registered for use in Australia. Australian law does not allow the publication of their names outside of a clinical setting.

Anti-Wrinkle Muscle Relaxant Injection therapy for wrinkles is the most popular cosmetic procedure in Australia and also in America according to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. It has been used for approximately 30 years in the field of cosmetic medicine.
Anti-Wrinkle Muscle Relaxant Injection therapy is extracted from bacteria and refined into a medication that has been used safely and effectively in millions of patients.
Most commonly, Anti-Wrinkle Muscle Relaxant Injection Therapy in cosmetic medicine and cosmetic surgery clinics is used to improve and soften expression lines that may give an impression of anger, anxiety, sadness or tiredness. The bunching of skin from facial muscle contractions causes frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines. The most commonly treated area is the frown line. When we frown, the skin between our eyebrows is gathered into a fold, which eventually causes a chronic furrow. This gives our face a frustrated, discouraged, angry or stressed appearance.

Anti-Wrinkle Muscle Relaxant Injections are:
- A purified protein that relaxes wrinkle causing muscles creating a smoother, rejuvenated and more youthful appearance. This works by blocking nerve impulses that trigger the wrinkle-causing muscle contractions.
- A quick and minimally invasive non-surgical treatment that delivers great, natural-looking results in experienced hands. It is administered in a few tiny injections into the facial or neck muscles.
- The discomfort is minimal – often described as like an ant bite sting for a few seconds.
- It is an effective procedure which involves minimal post-procedure recovery time. You can resume normal activities immediately. It is the true ‘lunch-time procedure’ taking about 30 minutes for a treatment.
- Its effects begin after 2-3 days, with full effect 3 weeks post treatment.
- Anti-Wrinkle Muscle Relaxant Injections is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that is relatively pain-free. At Cosmetic Image Clinics we can offer you numbing cream prior to your treatment to help to alleviate pain.
- It is becoming increasingly popular with Australians spending close to one billion dollars per annum on Anti-Wrinkle Muscle Relaxant Injections and dermal fillers.
As we age skin cells divide more slowly and the inner skin (dermis) starts to thin. The underlying network of collagen and elastin fibres begins to slowly degenerate and loses its elasticity. The skin also loses its ability to retain moisture and repair itself. Frown and forehead lines and crow’s feet appear to develop because of the persistent small muscle contractions. Anti-Wrinkle Muscle Relaxant Injection therapy can help improve these ageing concerns.
Having been widely used for nearly three decades, there have been no known increases in long term side-effects such as cancer or any other side-effects. It is generally very safe to use in experienced hands. The most common side effect is occasional tenderness and bruising at the site of injection. Patients should avoid aspirin, Ibuprofen/Nurofen, or blood thinning agents (including fish oils) prior to treatment for at least one week. It is common to experience some mild raised lumps in the hour or so after injection. These can be covered up or minimised easily with the application of makeup.
Another potential side-effect is headache. One in 10 can experience a headache, especially when injected into the frown area. However it is often used as a treatment for headaches and migraines, and many Anti-Wrinkle Muscle Relaxant Injections therapy users experience a reduction in the frequency and severity of their headaches. Headache and migraine sufferers often notice these headaches or migraines returning when their Anti-Wrinkle Muscle Relaxant Injections is wearing off, which can be a reminder for them that their treatment is due again.
There is a very small risk of the Anti-Wrinkle Muscle Relaxant Injection therapy causing a temporary weakness in nearby muscles such as a slight and temporary drooping, for instance of an eyelid or eyebrow lasting one to six weeks. This eyebrow or eyelid droop can occur in approximately 1 in 500 to 1000 cases, depending on the dose injected. This tends to last only for a short time because it is due to the tracking along the tissue at a lower concentration. Your doctor can prescribe eye drops to help reverse this side effect.
Allergies and double vision have been reported however these reports are rare.
All in all, the safety profile of Muscle Relaxant Injection therapy is excellent when used in experienced hands. At Cosmetic Image Clinics, even though Anti-Wrinkle Therapy has been proven over the previous decades to be very safe and reliable, we advise you of the risks associated with your treatment.
As with many drugs, Anti-Wrinkle Muscle Relaxant Injection therapy should not be given to pregnant or breastfeeding women or patients with neuromuscular disorders such as myasthenia gravis or Eaton-Lambert syndrome. If you have any other health issues, please discuss this with our team at your initial appointment.
Anti-Wrinkle Muscle Relaxant Injection treatment is temporary, lasting on average three to four months, and in some people up to six months. It tends to last longer with repeated treatment. The first time is the shortest duration of effect due to the increased strength of the muscle. Over time the muscle atrophies and slightly weakens which improves the longevity of the product. This effect is reversible upon cessation of treatment. It is advisable not to allow the effect to completely wear off so the muscle does not regain its original strength. The result will wear off progressively and eventually the wrinkles will return.
We pride ourselves on making your experience as comfortable as possible. If you would like numbing cream to be applied prior to your procedure, please do not hesitate to ask. Ideally, this should be done half an hour prior to your procedure, but even 10 minutes of application of numbing cream will help. We often use ice as well to minimise discomfort.
To further minimise pain, a vibrating instrument is often applied. This limits the transmission of pain impulses to the pain fibres. This technique was recommended by the inventor of cosmetic Anti-Wrinkle Muscle Relaxant Injection therapy, Dr Carruthers.
Taking two paracetamol tablets one hour prior to the procedure can also help. (Please do not use Ibuprofen/Nurofen as this increases your risk of bruising).
